Jamaica's NIR remained stable in August - BoJ

Jamaica's Net International Reserves (NIR) remained relatively stable in August.
 
Figures from the Bank of Jamaica show the reserves stood at US$6.64 billion at the end of August, compared with a similar level in July.
 
The Bank of Jamaica says the reserves were enough to cover 44 weeks of goods imports in August, up from 41 weeks in July. They could also cover 29 weeks of goods and services imports, up from 27 weeks in July.
 
The country's foreign assets also remained steady at about US$6.43 billion; however, deposits and currency held at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York increased by US$12.7 million to US$3.936 billion.
 
The value of Jamaica's securities also increased slightly to 3.047 billion US dollars, but the country's special drawing rights, or IMF currency, fell by US$15 million to US$162.27 million.
 
The country's IMF reserve position increased slightly to US$37.44 million.
