Oil prices climbed further on Tuesday, with Brent crude rising one per cent to settle at US$97.95 a barrel.
Brent briefly touched $99.46, bringing it close to the 100 dollar mark.
The global benchmark is now at its highest level since late July and has risen from about 72 dollars a barrel over the last two months.
The latest increase comes amid renewed attacks on energy infrastructure in the Middle East, raising concerns about further disruptions to oil supplies.
Reports of explosions at Iran's Kharg Island, the country's main oil export hub, also pushed prices higher.
Saudi Arabia has meanwhile reported that operations at several of its energy facilities were halted following attacks by Yemen's Houthi rebels.
West Texas Intermediate for October delivery rose 1.7% to settle at $93.03 a barrel.
