JetBlue to increase flights to Jamaica

Delano Seiveright, Senior Tourism Strategist

The US based low cost carrier, JetBlue, is looking to increase service to Jamaica, despite plans to cut other routes in its network.

Jetblue, which currently has 78 flights coming to Jamaica week from several US cities, says it plans to add more flights, based on increased demand.

Responding to this development, Delano Seiveright, Senior Advisor & Strategist in the Ministry of Tourism, told Radio Jamaica News that Jamaica is categorised as a "top-performing" destination by JetBlue.

Jamaica has welcomed one million visitors and earned one billion US dollars in foreign exchange in the first two months of the year.

The news for Jamaica comes as JetBlue moves to slash some routes across the United States and Latin America, effective June 13 this year.

JetBlue is trying to cut costs amid its failed bid to merge with Spirit Airlines.

The antitrust laws in the US also halted its partnership with American Airlines.
