JMEA's Buy Jamaica campaign off to slow start

The Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters Association (JMEA) says the Buy Jamaican campaign has not taken off as expected.

The launch earlier this year was designed to get customers and consumers as well as producers to buy more locally produced goods and raw materials.

JMEA President Kamesha Turner Blake blamed the lack of funding from the big players in the private sector and the government.

She argued that funding is needed for a public education campaign.

Mrs. Turner Blake revealed that the lack of funding was a result of the negative impact of Hurricane Melissa on the performance of private sector companies and government revenue.

She noted that the JMEA will be turning to social media to promote the initiative, which is crucial to reducing the trade deficit and the national debt.
