NCB Pay app launched for contactless transactions

National Commercial Bank has launched a new digital payment product called NCB Pay.

It allows cashless and contactless transactions at participating merchants using a near-field communication (NFC) enabled smartphone.

The application comes at a time when contactless cards have increased in circulation.

Danielle Cameron Duncan, General Manager of NCB's Payments and Digital Channels division, says users will be able to link their physical payment cards to a digital wallet on their device.

The smartphone may then be used at compatible Point of Sale terminals, or NFC enabled payment devices, to make payments via the NCB Pay app. This would be similar to "tapping" a card with contactless technology.

The system works similar to Apple and Android Pay in the United States and other more developed countries.

Mrs Cameron Duncan says this is another step in the payment eco-system, especially as contactless transactions have become more popular.

The current version of the application is only available for Android smartphones, however, NCB says the IOS verson is being worked on.
