Another shipment of Jamaica Urban Transit Company (JUTC) buses is expected to arrive in the island ahead of the new school year in September.

Information Minister Dr. Dana Morris Dixon said the buses will arrive by July.

Transport Minister Daryl Vaz last week announced that an additional 100 compressed natural gas buses had been acquired.

"They have been ordered and they have been paid for now. I'm told they were paid for last week and they will be loaded on a ship and they will be here by July. And these new buses will make 170 additional buses that have been added to the fleet since Minister Vaz has taken his appointment about a year ago," said Minister Morris Dixon, who gave the update during Wednesday's post-Cabinet press briefing.

She said the expenditure is unprecedented as the government moves to improve the ageing fleet at the state-run bus company.
