The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) is reporting that 32 members of the security forces have been charged since 2024 and brought before the court for various offences, including fatal shootings.
The law enforcement personnel were charged following rulings by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
According to the data, nine members are before the courts for fatal shootings which occurred last year. Sixteen have been charged with cases of assault, one case of road death, one case of hit-and-run collision, a case of discharge of firearm, four cases of a shooting injury, and one case of malicious destruction of property.
According to INDECOM, rulings for charges for 2024 is the highest produced by the agency since the court ruled that the DPP is the prosecutorial authority for INDECOM-investigated cases.
In the meantime, INDECOM says the latest fatal shooting statistics for the period January 1 to June 10, 2025, show that there have been 144 fatalities involving the security forces.
INDECOM says it continues to press for the urgent acquisition of body-worn cameras for deployment in planned police operations, fugitive apprehension assignments, and operational support systems.
