61 young Jamaicans receive keys to Howard Avenue studio apartments

Sixty-one young Jamaicans are now homeowners after receiving the keys to apartments at the National Housing Trust's Howard Avenue Housing Development in Kingston.

The beneficiaries, all aged 35 and younger, are among 248 contributors who received studio apartments built through the NHT's Guaranteed Purchase Programme.

The development comes as the NHT expands initiatives aimed at helping more young people into homeownership.

Since July 1, the Trust has reserved 20 per cent of housing solutions in its developments for contributors aged 35 and under.

Eligible contributors can also access up to $2 million of their NHT benefit towards a home deposit.

Meanwhile, Howard Avenue residents will be the first to benefit from the NHT's First Home Programme, which will allow eligible homeowners to sell their apartments back to the Trust and access financing to purchase larger homes while making the units available to other first-time buyers.
