The Jamaica Public Service has confirmed the arrival in Jamaica of 72 specialized vehicles comprised of bucket trucks, diggers, pole trailers and pick-ups to boost electricity restoration after Hurricane Melissa
The vehicles were offloaded over the weekend at Freeport Montego Bay and will be used by the recently arrived Holland Power Services crews.
The JPS says the newly deployed assets will be assigned primarily to Westmoreland and other areas of western Jamaica, where damage to the electricity network was most severe and where significant rebuilding and restoration activities are required.
It says this set of vehicles brings to roughly 160, the number of specialized vehicles imported since the unprecedented disaster hit.
Detommie Fuller, Manager for Business Continuity Resiliency & Contract Management, says the additional vehicles will help to ensure that the newly arrived linemen will be fully resourced as they restore power to the remaining 12 per cent of JPS customers.
