Agriculture Minister to receive report Friday amid complaints of chicken shortage

Agriculture Minister Floyd Green
By Prince Moore

Agriculture Minister Floyd Green is to receive a report Friday to confirm whether there is a chicken shortage in the country.

Mr. Green says the ministry is conducting a rapid assessment following complaints from wholesalers and retailers.

The assessment will help the ministry to determine the next steps to address the issue.

Mr. Green said representatives from his ministry started the assessment two weeks ago.

"That process means that we speak to a wide cross-section of those in the industry, including our producers, our small poultry farmers, including our restaurant operators, and then we look at those findings. So in fact, that report is due on Friday, and we're having a poultry stakeholders meeting... [to] look at any issues that we're facing."

Mr. Green was speaking Wednesday on PowerTalk, on Power 106 FM.
