Chang vows policeman's shooting death will not be in vain

By Nakinskie Robinson

National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has vowed to rid the country of those who seek to destabilise the nation and instill fear following the death of Sergeant Patrick Mahoney.

Sergeant Mahoney died in hospital on Monday morning from bullet wounds he sustained during an attack at his home in Bridgeport, St. Catherine on Thursday.

The policeman was in his yard when he was shot by unknown assailants.

He was attached to the St. Catherine North Police Division.

Dr. Chang, who bemoaned the policeman's untimely death, asserts that the killing of those who uphold the law and safeguard society will not be condoned or tolerated and said the policeman's passing would not be in vain.

He says this incident is a stark reminder of the dangers that agents of the state face each day as they work to protect and serve communities.

The National Security Minister says the safety and well-being of all police officers is a top priority of the government.

He added that as Minister, he is resolute in his commitment to providing the necessary resources and support to ensure officers can carry out their duties with the assurance of protection and respect.

Dr. Chang is calling for the public to cooperate fully with the police as they carry out their investigations.
