As the probe into the massive fraud at the National Solid Waste Management Authority, NSWMA, intensifies word is expected today, Friday June 8, on whether charges will be laid against a former employee of the entity.
Fraud Squad detectives yesterday evening completed their question and answer session with the suspect.
Defence attorney Peter Champagnie, who says the man is maintaining his innocence, told RJR News that the police will indicate their next move as the interview with his client ended at 5 pm on Thursday.
The former NSMWA employee was held on Tuesday on suspicion of breaching the Corruption Prevention Act.
This followed the discovery of questionable transactions amounting to 160 million dollars at the agency.
The Financial Investigation Division was asked by the Local Government Ministry to carry out a forensic audit of the NSWMA's operations and the findings later forwarded to the police.
The audit was ordered after December's break-in and fire at the Authority's headquarters on Half Way Tree Road.
Numerous documents were destroyed.
