Children’s Advocate expresses condolences to Phillips family

The family and friends of a schoolgirl who was accidentally shot dead during a robbery attempt at her home continue to receive support.

Children's Advocate Mary Clarke has expressed condolences to the Phillips family, whose daughter Pia, 18, was accidentally shot when her father's firearm discharged as he attempted to protect his family.

She later succumbed to her injuries.

Mrs. Clarke appealed to those in society who continue to prey on the youth and their parents to cease their senseless activities.

She insisted that children should be allowed to live without constant fear for their lives.

On Saturday night, Pia and other family members returned to their home in Havendale, St. Andrew and were pounced on by gunmen.

Her father came to their assistance with his licensed firearm but he slipped and the gun accidentally fired.

Pia, who was reportedly struck in the abdomen, died on Sunday morning in hospital.

On Monday, a grief stricken Immaculate High School family mourned her loss as they lauded her contributions to the school.
