Thompson retains nat'l 100m title, Tina Clayton wins first national crown

Olympic silver medallist Kishane Thompson became back to back men's national 100 metre champion after recording a new personal best and world-leading time to capture the blue ribband event on Friday's second day of the JAAA  National Senior & Junior Championships at the National Stadium.

In a star-studded line-up, Thompson sped to a blistering 9.75 seconds to win ahead of Oblique Seville in 9.83. Akeem Blake completed the top three in a personal best of 10.88 seconds.

Meanwhile, Tina Clayton produced a massive new lifetime best in the women's equivalent to secure her first national title.

Tina stopped the clock at 10.81 seconds to lower her previous personal best of 10.93 seconds she ran in the semi-finals. Shericka Jackson was second in a season's best  10.88 seconds.

5-time world champion Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce who was making her final National Championship appearance, booked her spot on the team to the Tokyo World Championships after placing third in a season's best 10.91 seconds.

Tia Clayton who was among the favourites, pulled up just after the midway point of the race and failed to finish.

Saturday's penultimate day will be highlighted by the finals of the mens and women's 400 metre hurdles. The day's action gets underway at 9:48 am. Live coverage will be on TVJ, TVJ SN and 1spotmedia, as well as Hitz 92 FM.
