Defence attorneys in the Omar Collymore et-al trial began their attack on the credibility of the prosecution's main witness, Wade Blackwood, on Tuesday, branding him unreliable.
Mr Collymore, Michael Adams, Shaquilla Edwards and Dwayne Pink are on trial for the January 2, 2018, murder of Mr Collymore's wife, Simone Campbell Collymore, and taxi operator Winston Walters.
Blackwood, who confessed to spraying the taxi with bullets outside of Mrs Cambell Collymore's Forrest Ridge apartment in Red Hills, St Andrew, said Mr Adams told him that Mr Collymore ordered the hit.
At the start of the trial in February, Blackwood told the court that Mr Collymore offered to give his father a truck in exchange for him telling the court that Mrs Campbell Collymore contracted him to kill her husband but things went sour.
But Mr Collymore's attorney, Diane Jobson, during her address to the jurors yesterday afternoon, challenged the allegation, questioning the benefit to be derived by her client.
Blackwood is serving two life sentences and will be eligible for parole after 20 years.
Pointing out that the convict was already doomed because he was captured on CCTV footage, Miss Jobson said he had no choice but to cooperate with the prosecution to get a lesser sentence.
Miss Jobson sought to refute allegations that Mr Collymore orchestrated his wife's murder to collect a 78 million dollar pay out from her insurance policy, noting that her client was earning six million dollars per year and was worth 150 million dollars.
Miss Jobson questioned why someone earning that amount of money would kill his wife, lose his freedom, his assets, children and his house in Florida.
Reminding the jury that Mr Collymore was not on trial for his infidelity, Ms Jobson said a "gyalis" is not a murderer.
The attorney declared that if Jamaican men were to be tried for being unfaithful, most of the male population would be in prison.
She pointed out that her client had not denied having an affair with a women, in whose business he invested three million dollars.
Miss Jobson will continue her address when court resumes on Wednesday.
