The National Fishers Authority is appealing for adherence to the 2024/2025 close season for Queen Conch that will run for six months.
The close season will start on August 15 and end on February 28, 2025.
It coincides with the peak breeding season of the Queen Conch, and allows them time to freely mate, mature, and revive their population.
During the close season, it is illegal to possess, buy, sell, offer for sale, process or import any conch products or by-products.
Individuals have 21 days from the start of the close season to declare, to the Fisheries Authority, any conch in their possession which can then be sold or processed within that period.
Any person who contravenes this regulation commits an offence and is liable to a fine of up to $1 million or up to one year in prison.
