Constable arrested

Radio Jamaica News has been informed that a Constable attached to the Specialised Operation Unit in Kingston has been arrested after he was reportedly seen in possession of an illegal gun on Sunday.

He was held by the police after he was allegedly seen with the weapon at a funeral service in Clarendon.

The funeral was being held for one of the cop's relatives who was fatally shot by gunmen in Tollgate, two months ago.

Police personnel were monitoring activities at the funeral when the constable, who was among mourners, got into a dispute with a team of police officers. He identified himself as a member of the Force during the dispute and the cops requested his ID, but he reportedly refused to hand it over.

He was reportedly informed that he was asked to hand over a firearm, reportedly seen in his waistband, but he refused and walked off. He was chased and held, but the firearm wasn't found on his person.

The constable was arrested and taken to his home where the cops seized several rounds of ammunition.

It was later confirmed that he was a member of the police force.

Investigations also revealed that he was not issued with a service weapon by the JCF.

The Inspectorate and Professional Standards Oversight Bureau of the Jamaica Constabulary Force and INDECOM are investigating the case.
