Councillor Sydney Rose of the Treadways Division in the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation

Councillor for the Treadways Division of the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation Sydney Rose has called for immediate steps to be taken to improve the pay of contract workers in the public sector.
Councillor Rose says contract workers were not among the several groups of civil servants who saw their salaries adjusted under the government's compensation review exercise.
Mr. Rose says most of the workers attached to the St. Catherine Municipal Corporation are on contract.
He says it is unfortunate that the administration has not moved to address the situation:
"Now, we can't employ anyone on contract, and we can't adjust their salaries, based on the fact that we'd have to wait on the ministry. Persons like those that have been asking, even at the very infirmary, persons are calling and asking, Councillor, what is happening?" he said, adding that the workers are "suffering".
He called for the situation to get urgent attention.
