There is growing concern in Jamaica and the Caribbean about the recently released grades for tests administered by the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC).

There have been many complaints locally from students who received poor grades which did not reflect their ability or work done during the year.

Chief Education Officer Dr. Kasan Troupe on Wednesday sought to reassure students and parents the concerns would be addressed.

"So we are aware at the Ministry of Education that a few of our students would have reported that there are some inconsistencies with their results. So we have been having dialogue with out local registrar at the OEC and we will be collecting those information from our schools and it will be researched and whatever needs to be done in the interest of our students, that will be done," she said, adding that the results are preliminary so "more detailed reviews will be done before the final results are published."

A petition has been launched on change.org demanding a review of all 2020 CSEC and CAPE grades.

It has so far garnered more than 14,000 signatures.

On Thursday, Stabroek News reported that Guyana's ministry of education has registered its dissatisfaction with CXC about the apparent poor grading of students.

The Trinidad Express newspaper has also reported complaints from students, parents and teachers.

CXC's social media pages have been inundated with complaints.

In response, CXC directed candidates to its website for more information on the Query and Review process under which they must register their complaints within 30 days and pay a fee for the review.
