"Dawg Paw" gang leader and accomplice sentenced

Reputed leader of the "Dawg Paw" gang, Christopher Linton has been sentenced to 15 years in prison, following his conviction on gun related charges last month before the Gun Court.  
One of his accomplices, Micah Allen, was also sentenced to 15 years on charges of illegal possession of a firearm and shooting with intent.  
     
Linton was sentenced to a total of 30 years - 15 for illegal possession and 15 for shooting with intent.  However, the sentences are to run concurrently, so he will serve 15 years.
      
He was convicted on February 11, on allegations that he and members of the gang fired on a police patrol party along Tavern Drive in the eastern parish of St Andrew.  
     
Prosecutors led evidence, that on April 14, 2010, the cops were on patrol when they ran into Linton and others who were armed with high powered weapons. The men opened fire which was returned by the police.
Linton and his men escaped but he was eventually captures in  January 2011, during a major joint police/military operation .
    
Linton and members of the Dawg Paw gang were linked to a series of murders, shootings and extortion in the Papine/August Town area of the Corporate Area.
       
Linton is still waiting to be tried in connection with two other cases  - of shooting at the police and a triple murder in which a little boy and his mother were killed.

Meanwhile Commissioner of Police, Owen Ellington is praising police investigators and members of the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) following the sentencing of  Linton  and  Allen.
