Residents mounted roadblocks from Lancaster to Pusey Hill square in South Manchester on Monday to express their dissatisfaction with a number of issues including poor road conditions and the extended closure of the Pratville Primary and Infant School building.
From about 3 o'clock Monday morning, residents used mainly downed trees to block nearly 11 kilometres of roadway, incorporating the communities of Pratville and Asia, forcing students and workers to walk miles to access transportation.
A resident, who gave his name as Jah B, gave a summary of the complaints the residents want addressed.
"We waan the police station fi get a vehicle, we want the clinic fi come back round yah suh and the road from here suh to Newport fi fix; and the school, Pratville Primary School, we want it right pon target cause we tired a this ting. We nuh got no MP a South Manchester. All we got come from South Manchester from 1989 a money pirate...no MP," said the disgruntled resident.
Pratville Primary and Infant School was among educational institutions severely damaged during Hurricane Beryl.
Since the start of the new academic year on September 2, the school has been holding classes at two community churches while repair work continues.
