Family medicine practitioner Dr Jacqueline Campbell is cautioning the public against over consumption of fast foods, saying this could have long-term detrimental consequences.

Dr Campbell, speaking Sunday on Radio Jamaica's That's a Rap, explained these foods are hyper-palatable, "so, in other words, it tastes good!"

But she said these foods contain more salt and oil than you would put in your food at home, and salt and oil actually add flavour, so they keep coming back for more."

Dr Campbell also recommends various meal alternatives, including vegetables, fruit, fish, chicken, Tofu and red meat, but all prepared differently.

She says these alternatives should be continuously promoted by the authorities.
