Dr Sangster, former President of the University of Technology (formerly CAST) died on Monday night. He was 95.
Minister of Sports Olivia Grange, in response late on Tuesday, hailed the contribution of Dr Sangster to the development of the nation's athletes, transforming the university and safeguarding the country's democracy.
Ms Grange said Dr Sangster's contribution to the development of track athletics in Jamaica is one of his standout achievements and accomplishments.
She also noted that as an educator, Sangster presided over the transformation of the College of Arts, Science & Technology (CAST) into UTech.
Dr Sangster, will also be remembered as the founding Chairman of the local election watchdog organization, Citizens Action for Free and Fair Elections.
