Eight people are dead and several others hospitalised after gunmen went on a shooting spree at an event in Cherry Tree Lane, Four Paths, Clarendon on Sunday night.
At least 15 people were shot during the incident which occurred sometime before 9 o’clock.
It’s reported that a group of people had gathered at a birthday event when the shooting occurred.
The police are theorising that the attack may be connected to reprisal activities from a few years back.
National Security Minister Dr. Horace Chang has condemned the attack. He is urging the police to utilise every resource and power to swiftly apprehend the perpetrators.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister Andrew Holness has called a meeting of the National Security Council for 9 o’clock Monday to discuss Sunday night’s brutal gun attack.
Mr. Holness commented on the act of criminality after he received a preliminary briefing from the Jamaica Constabulary Force.
He advised the police to "leave no stone unturned" in bringing to justice the criminals who perpetrated what he termed the dastardly act.
Mr. Holness said the Jamaican State will not countenance such savagery being meted out to the people, adding that the government will respond strongly.
The Prime Minister said the incident is a reminder that despite the approximately 17 per cent reduction in murders which has been achieved this year, the government will have to persist and intensify efforts to aggressively target criminal gangs across the country.
The Prime Minister also called for anyone with information concerning Sunday night's attack to tell the police what they know.
