The family of Jimoy Suckoo, the bartender who was fatally shot allegedly with her police boyfriend's firearm at a hotel in May Pen, Clarendon on Sunday, wants a thorough investigation into her death.
The constable has reportedly given conflicting accounts in relation to the death of the 20-year-old woman.
He indicated that about 7 o'clock Sunday evening, he woke Ms. Suckoo with the intention of going on the road to purchase food.
He said he placed his service pistol on the bed and turned his back.
The cop said he turned around after he heard a loud explosion.
He said that was when he realised that his girlfriend had a bullet wound to her chest.
Ms. Suckoo was taken to hospital where she was pronounced dead.
In another account of incident, the cop said he was about to get something to eat and began removing his service firearm from his leg holster when the weapon slipped from his hand.
In an attempt to catch it, the cop said he accidentally caused the gun to go off.
Meanwhile, Ms. Suckoo's sister Rashine Blake said she was at home when she was contacted by a policeman asking if she heard from her sister and saying he would called her back later.
Ms. Blake said she later got another call informing her of her sister's death.
She said she had met her sister's boyfriend once via video call, but he was introduced as a friend, so she was unaware they had a romantic relationship.
The Independent Commission of Investigations (INDECOM) said it is investigating the circumstances that led to the fatal shooting.
INDECOM Commissioner Hugh Faulkner noted that evidential material has been gathered from the scene and the hands of the victim as well as the cop have been swabbed for gunshot residue.
The officer's gun was also recovered and he has been asked to submit a statement, while an interview will be scheduled.
