A fire broke out at the Petrojam refinery on Marcus Garvey Drive in Kingston on Thursday night.
Initial reports indicated that the refinery had been shut down for routine maintenance and that a leak occurred during the restart process, which subsequently ignited.
Emergency responders were called to the scene and, within minutes, brought the blaze under control.
The management of the state-run oil refinery confirmed that the fire which broke out at the facility on Thursday night has been extinguished and there have been no injuries to the staff members who were on duty.
Additionally, Petrojam says there has been no impact on fuel supplies.
In a media release Friday morning, Petrojam's General Manager Danville Walker said the fire, which was limited to a section of the refinery, resulted from an operational incident.
The blaze was swiftly brought under control by the company's emergency response teams.
Mr. Walker said, while cooling operations continue on Friday, Petrojam is conducting an initial assessment of the damage as part of a wider investigation into what happened.
He said some operational units remain shut down as a precautionary measure.
The Petrojam General Manager said the refinery continues to operate safely and reliably with no impact on fuel storage and availability.
He said daily supplies of fuel continue as normal from the Kingston and Montego Bay loading racks.
The Jamaica Fire Brigade is also investigating the incident.
