At least 105 people are said to be out of a job after Superior Auto Parts' Hagley Park Road facility was destroyed by fire on Thursday.
Police say they received the emergency call about the fire sometime after 11 a.m.
The fire raged for close to five hours and up the news time, firefighters were still on the scene.
Officials say the fire is however contained, with mostly smoke now emanating from the site.
It is still not clear what caused the blaze, but it reportedly started in a section of the facility that deals with repairs.
The Radio Jamaica News team that visited the scene counted close to 15 Jamaica Fire Brigade units as well as private trucks on the scene trying to contain the blaze.
Authorities added that the high number of flammable goods at the auto parts facility made the fire more difficult to control.
At least two firefighters required medical attention due to the constant exposure to heat and smoke.
No major injury was reported.
Two neighbouring housing structures were also destroyed by the fire.
The ongoing drought and subsequent water restrictions in the Corporate Area limited response efforts. The authorities explained that the National Water Commission had to turn on water to the community to ensure firefighters had enough of the commodity to fight the massive blaze.
Meanwhile, head of the Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement Branch (PSTEB), Senior Superintendent Lloyd Darby, said Hagley Park Road has been closed due to the fire at Superior Auto Parts.
He said vehicles going west from Half Way Tree will be diverted to Omara Road. Those going east towards Half Way Tree will be diverted to Waltham Park Road.
The fire resulted in gridlock in much of the Corporate Area.
