Former Jamaican Senator and attorney-at-law Christopher Bovell has died at the age of 86.
Mr. Bovell, who attended Munro College and later Cambridge University in the United States, was admitted to practice as a solicitor in the Supreme Court of Jamaica in 1964.
In 1979, he became a director of GraceKennedy, serving the company for 30 years.
He also held the post of treasurer of the Jamaica Labour Party from 1983 to 1989.
In a statement, the Bustamante Industrial Trade Union (BITU) expressed profound sadness at the passing of Mr. Bovell, who was a distinguished member of its Managing Executive Committee.
It said Mr. Bovell served the union with unwavering dedication for more than 40 years as its attorney-at-law and trustee.
Despite retiring from active legal service in 2024, the union noted, Mr. Bovell continued to generously share his wisdom and experience as a trustee, remaining deeply committed to the oversight, stability and sound governance of the BITU until his passing.
