Radio Jamaica News has been informed that four male students of a high school in St. Ann have been arrested and remain in custody in connection with allegations that a female student at the institution was raped on the school compound.
The incident reportedly occurred during the first week of the new school term last month.
It is also reported that the student was admitted to hospital following the assault.
Radio Jamaica News was informed that the matter was only reported to the board chairman and members at a board meeting held Tuesday.
A source revealed that the delay in reporting the incident was not well received by the board members, who took issue with the principal.
Following queries by Radio Jamaica News, the St. Ann police confirmed that an incident occurred at the school and an investigation is underway.
The alleged victim of the assault has not returned to school since the incident.
