Stakeholders in the funeral home industry are growing frustrated with the protracted delay in enacting regulations drafted for the sector.

Jamaica Association of Certified Embalmers and Funeral Directors has set a meeting for next month to decide on the way forward.

President of the Association, Calvin Lyn, said the issue of unregulated practices in the industry by untrained, unprofessional people is worsening.

"What is happening? Why this regulation is not made into law by now for us to be guided while we are trained to do the proper thing?" he questioned.

"We have read a lot of allegations about who in government operating as untrained people. But that is not my problem. All we're saying, the Ministry at the meeting, March of 2020, explained that you need to be trained because this is a requirement. You have to be trained and be accredited by a recognised institution," he outlined.

Mr. Lyn said the discussions surrounding the need for regulations to govern the industry date back to the 1990's, with a draft regulation developed in 2014, but which is yet to be enacted.

He wants the Ministry of Health to move with urgency to have the relevant laws enacted.
