Golding dismisses JLP's minimum wage increase plan

People's National Party President Mark Golding has characterised the proposed doubling of the minimum wage by the incumbent Jamaica Labour Party is another "last ditch probox promise" ahead of the September 3 parliamentary general election.

Prime Minister Dr. Andrew Holness announced Sunday night that, if re-elected, his government will gradually increase the national minimum wage from $16,000 to $32,000 for a 40-hour work week.

He said the first increase to $18,500 would take effect in the first budget of the new term, with further hikes in the following years.

But Mr Golding, speaking at a rally in Spalding, Clarendon on Monday night, claimed the PNP has a more workable plan for minimum wage earners.
