Government doing due diligence for appointments to public boards

The government says it is conducting due diligence in relation to appointments to public boards.

New regulations were passed requiring that prospective board members are registered in a data base, screened and vetted before they are appointed.

Finance Minster Fayval Williams told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the regulations are being strictly enforced.

"Public entities are in compliance with the law, as it relates to persons registering on the database; their competencies are matched... it is in effect," she confirmed, in response to a question posed on the matter.

The Lower House approved the amendment to the Tax Administration Jamaica Act to allow the Minister to appoint board members.
