The government says no decision has been made on whether it will ban corporal punishment in homes.
The Association of Christian Communicators and Media (ACCM) on Monday urged Jamaicans to resist the government's plan to introduce laws to prevent corporal punishment in homes, following recent pronouncements by Justice Minister Delroy Chuck re-stating the government's intention.
But in a release Monday afternoon, the government said it has not yet taken a decision, adding that it values the importance of engaging all stakeholders.
It said it is committed to a collaborative approach, which includes families and churches, as it works to eradicate violence in society and against children.
The government added that the report from the National Commission on Violence Prevention will be a key driver in informing national dialogue and ensuring that all voices are heard and considered.
NCVP, established by Prime Minister Andrew Holness, is tasked with conducting a multi-dimensional examination of societal violence.
