Prime Minister Andrew Holness is again warning that the government will be unrelenting in its targeting of criminal gangs.
Speaking with members of the media on Tuesday at the site of the mass shooting in Rockfort, East Kingston, Mr. Holness said his administration has increased its allocation to the security forces to target and dismantle gangs.
He said the govenment would have no favour or sympathy for criminals, and as such, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Jamaica Defence Force and Major Organised Crime and Anti-Corruption Agency have started to restructure their operations to deal with the threat of organised, armed, criminal violence.
While he said the government has eroded the number of gangs from as many as 600 to 150 active gangs currently, the Prime Minister admitted that "the gangs still exist, and at the spur of a moment, they can become brutal and fatal".
Five people were killed and two others wounded in the Rockfort attack.
They were shot while attending a football match in the Pleasant Heights community on Monday.
One of the suspects in the shooting was fatally shot during a police operation on Tuesday in the Rockfort area.
