JLP Deputy Leader Desmond McKenzie
Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) Deputy Leader Desmond McKenzie has suggested that the Andrew Holness administration has been unfairly criticised by the parliamentary opposition and others over its management of the economy.
Mr. McKenzie said Dr. Holness and his government are not getting the respect they deserve.
"You know, when things are bad, we acknowledge that things are bad. And we're not a perfect government. There is no government in the world that is perfect. Even when they rule with an iron fist, they still make mistakes. And we are bold enough as a party and as a government. We have taken and have made decisions that sometimes hurt people, but it is because we do it in the best interest of the Jamaican people. And none of them want to acknowledge, they don't want to give credit. They don't want to sing the praises of Andrew Holness as prime minister and the Jamaica Labour Party. What they do? They find all sort of things to criticise us about," he complained.
Mr. McKenzie toured the North East St. Catherine constituency on Thursday where he assured sitting Member of Parliament Kerensia Morrison that the government will address the poor road conditions in the constituency.
Speaking with party workers on Thursday afternoon, Mr. McKenzie admitted that the roads in sections of the constituency needed improvement, but told the MP that the problems will be solved under the REACH road patching programme.
Mr. McKenzie also took a swipe at People's National Party leader Mark Golding and his routine use of the Jamaican dialect while on the campaign trail, contending that "anybody who's going to represent me as my prime minister must know how to address me, how to address the country".
