Hurricane Milton now Category 3 but still expected to be catastrophic

Hurricane Milton, downgraded to a Category 3 storm on its approach to Florida, is still predicted to be deadly and catastrophic.

Millions have fled the US state, with Milton forecast to make landfall Wednesday evening over southern Sarasota, and tornado and storm surge warnings already in place.

At a campaign stop in Scranton, Pennsylvania, Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump doubled down on his criticism of the Joe Biden administration's response to Hurricane Helene, calling it the worst ever.

He also repeated a false claim that hurricane-disaster money from the Federal Emergency Management Agency has been reallocated to illegal immigrants coming in, instead of helping Americans affected by Helene.

But President Biden slammed the claims as outright lies.

Hurricane Helene hit the Gulf Coast as a category four storm, killing at least 225 people across Florida, Georgia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia and North Carolina.
