Jamaica has announced it will discontinue the current technical cooperation arrangement with Cuba for the deployment of Cuban medical professionals in the public health sector.
The decision comes after both governments were unable to agree on new terms following the expiration of the previous agreement in February 2023.
To ensure continuity of care, the Ministry of Health and Wellness says it will seek to engage the Cuban doctors and nurses individually under Jamaica's labour laws so they can complete the remainder of their tenure.
The Government thanked Cuba for its significant contribution to Jamaica's health sector, including support for eye care services and general medical care across the island.
