Immigration officials in Grenada have given a Jamaican
journalist associated with a regional news agency CARIBUPDATE, 24 hours to
leave the country.
Tenesha Thomas has been in Grenada on special assignment for CARIBUPATE, a regional news agency based in Hollywood, Florida, and owned by Grenadian-born journalist Hamlet Mark.
Ms Thomas, who had been CARIBUPDATE's Special Caribbean Political Correspondent since the start of the year, was sent on assignment to Grenada to cover the build-up to likely general elections there.
On Thursday on February 14th, four immigration officials took her into custody, claiming she had over-stayed her time.
However, Ms Thomas, who had a return ticket for the first week in March, showed officials that her passport was stamped until August 2, 2008.
But a top immigration official said the date was meant to be the February 8th, rather than the August 2nd.
She has been asked to leave Grenada on the next available flight to Kingston.
The Immigration officials stated that Ms Thomas will be free to return to the country, and suggested that she get a CARICOM Nationals Skill certificate from Jamaica.
