A Jamaican man wanted in Springfield, Massachusetts in connection with a 2019 torture and arson case was on Thursday arrested in Panama City Beach, Florida.
The authorities say 26-year-old Dushane Jerome Simon was also an illegal immigrant.
It was reported that members of Bay County Sheriff's Office Criminal and Special Investigations Divisions along with the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force located Simon at an apartment in Panama City Beach.
When he was approached, Simon reportedly jumped from a third-story balcony and fled on foot into a nearby wooded area.
He was quickly captured a short distance away.
He is booked as a Fugitive From Justice at the Bay County Jail.
Simon reportedly fled Massachusetts before the trial for his involvement in the case in which the victim was abducted, robbed, tortured, and set on fire.
He was on probation at the time of the September 30, 2019 attack. His Massachusetts Probation Department GPS ankle bracelet was later located on the side of Interstate 495 in Eastern Massachusetts.
The Bay County Sheriff's Office says an ICE hold has been placed on Simon, who has no valid visa to be in the US and a prior arrest history.
He will be deported from the country upon his release from custody.
