JAS President Lenworth Fulton
The Jamaica Agricultural Society has painted a grim picture of the effects of the prevailing drought conditions on the agriculture sector.
JAS President Lenworth Fulton says the drought across the island is affecting all sections of the sector.
He told Radio Jamaica News that farmers continue to suffer losses as their crops are being devastated by limited to no rainfall.
Mr Fulton cited coconut, potato, cabbage, lettuce, carrot and callaloo as being among the most affected crops.
He's therefore predicting that there will be a shortage of some of these items to consumers if the drought conditions continue, and that prices will rise as a consequence, "because we're not going to have much vegetable now with what is happening."
"It will affect the prices of both root crops and vegetables," he concluded.
