JLP's Manifesto and Achievements Committee Chairman Kamina Johnson Smith
As the Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) prepares to launch its election campaign manifesto in Montego Bay on Sunday, it says the decision of the People's National Party (PNP) to launch a supplemental manifesto is an admission of the failure of the main statement of intentions.
PNP General Secretary Dr. Dayton Campbell has said the PNP will be putting out what he termed a 'manifesto light' after the JLP releases its own declaration of intentions.
Responding to questions at Thursday's media briefing, chairman of the JLP's Manifesto and Achievements Committee Kamina Johnson Smith said the public should demand answers from the PNP on the need for another manifesto.
"I've never heard of a manifesto being done in two phases. We have always launched our manifesto after Nomination Day. If you look and check the dates, you'll see that we launched our manifestos after Nomination Day and we have been committed to ensuring that there's information that fills the space in any event in the time leading up to it.
"So we weren't disturbed that because they didn't have an action to answer our achievements that they brought theirs forward and clearly botched their job. But I think that they should be called out for this supplemental manifesto and people should say you know you've put things forward and is this the kind of slapdash policy-making, the slapdash approach to planning and governing that you would undertake if you became government?" she questioned.
Meanwhile, the Jamaica Constabulary Force is advising the public that there will be several traffic changes for the town of Montego Bay, St. James to facilitate the Jamaica Labour Party's public meeting to be held at Sam Sharpe Square on Sunday.
The changes will be in effect from 10 p.m. Friday until 5 a.m. Monday.
