The Jamaica Labour Party (JLP) says it will make an announcement in coming days in regards to the Clarendon Municipal Corporation leadership controversy.
The two parties in the Corporation have been at odds, with the People's National Party (PNP) claiming that it has control having won the popular vote in the February 26 local government election, while the JLP has said, among other things, that the law is silent on the matter and the Mayor can only be removed by a vote of no confidence.
The PNP says it is in dialogue with its attorney.
The PNP's Delroy Dawson claimed the Aenon Town division, polling 1,646 votes to defeat the Jamaica Labour Party's Suzette Barton who received 1,592 votes in the November 22 by-election.
Mr. Dawson's victory means that the PNP controls 11 divisions and the governing JLP, 11.
Following the JLP's 81st annual conference in November, Minister of Local Government Desmond McKenzie promised a statement the following week.
Since then, councillors across the political divide have traded barbs at two meetings of the Clarendon Municipal Corporation, resulting in a premature end to the proceedings.
When asked on Tuesday for an update, Mr. McKenzie said he was not in a position to comment but will issue a statement next week.
Earlier this month PNP Councillor Scean Barnswell said his party will petition the courts for a resolution.
Speaking with Radio Jamaica News on Wednesday morning, Mr. Barnswell said he is awaiting instructions from the party's attorneys.
