JPS power restoration to all but 400 customers affected by Tuesday's weather-related disruption

The Jamaica Public Service Company (JPS)  says it has restored electricity service to more than 49,600 of the 50,000 customers affected by Monday's squall line weather event.

The squall line brought with it winds of more than 64 kilometres per hour, which created tropical storm conditions in several parishes.

The electrictiy supplier's grid was affected by the storm force winds, and flying missiles that came in contact with its power lines.

In an update today, the company's Senior Vice President for Energy Delivery, Blaine Jarrett, said teams are now working to restore power to the less than 400 remaining customers by day's end.

These customers are scattered across the parishes of Kingston, St. Andrew, St. Catherine, and Clarendon.

Mr Jarrett explained that the company activated its Incident Command Centre yesterday in response to the unexpected weather event.

JPS is reminding members of the public to exercise caution, especially around fallen wires, and to be careful of falling debris.  Customers may report outages or hazards using the JPS mobile app, website, or Customer Care Centre at 888-CALL-JPS (888-225-5577).
