Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jr.

Labour Minister Pearnel Charles Jr. says he expects normality to return to Petrojam this morning following a meeting Wednesday evening with the Union of Clerical Administrative and Supervisory Employees (UCASE) to address the issues affecting the workers.
Technical service workers at Petrojam staged a sickout on Wednesday after reaching a gridlock over months long wage negotiations.
A meeting was later called by the Labour Minister.
Mr. Charles said another conciliation meeting is to take place at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon.
"It is my expectation that the union and its membership will ensure normalcy is resumed by October 12, 2023 to facilitate our further conciliatory talks. Let me take this opportunity to urge workers to resume normalcy in the spirit of amicable labour relations. I give the Ministry of Labour and Social Security's commitment that we will take all necessary actions towards a speedy resolution," he sought to assure.
UCASE President Vincent Morrison said an agreement was reached between the management and union on the wage negotiations, but the Ministry of Finance and the Public Service has intervened in the negotiations, granting approval for a lower offer than initially agreed on by the staff and Petrojam's management.
This, he said, has angered the state owned oil company's employees.
When contacted Thursday morning, UCASE General Secretary John Levy said he was in a meeting with the employees.
