Minister of Labour & Social Security Pearnel Charles Jr., has poinited to labour productivity as key to ensuring Jamaica's sustainable development.
The Minister said on Thursday that a people-centred approach, which places individuals at the core of strategies and policies, must be taken to drive productivity,
He said data should be used to guide the skills training to ensure the needs of all sectors are met with the requisite skill set.
Mr Charles, addressing the HEART/NSTA Trust's Sub-Regional Summit in Kingston, said the nature of work is undergoing profound transformation with the advancement of technology, including the automation of repetitive tasks and the use of artificial intelligence in human resource processes.
This, he observed, demands a re-evaluation of the approach to improving productivity in the workplace.
