Life of ZOSOs further extended

National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang and MP Angella Brown Burke

The House of Representatives has voted to extend the seven Zones of Special Operations across the island for another six months.

The ZOSOs, which were due to expire next Monday, are in effect in Mount Salem, Denham Town, August Town, Greenwich Town, Norwood, Parade Gardens, and Savanna-la-Mar.

National Security Minister Dr Horace Chang told the House of Representatives on Tuesday that the zones have offered the greatest benefit to some of the most challenged communities.

He added that the value of the intervention in the communities has proven successful as they complement the efforts of the security forces.

Dr Chang said, given the success achieved by the police in curtailing crime across the island, there will be adjustments to the ZOSOs and the inclusion of other communities.

Dr Angella Brown Burke, MP for St Andrew South Western which includes Greenwich Town, voiced her support for the extension of the zones, called for more to be done for residents in the communities involved.
