The St. Ann police on Sunday arrested a man in connection with the seizure of an illegal firearm and ammunition during an operation at Laycock Street in Lime Hall.

The man is being held on suspicion of possession of prohibited weapon and unauthorised possession of ammunition.

The police say three premises were searched during the early morning raid targeting persons of interest in lottery scamming and prohibited weapons.

At one of the premises, a car was searched and a Mac-10 submachine gun with the serial number erased and a magazine containing 15 nine millimetre cartridges were found inside a bag.

The owner of the vehicle was arrested.

Four other people were taken into custody in relation to crimes committed in the Lime Hall area.
