PWC highlights critical gaps in protections against cyber attacks

PwC says, although investments in cyber security are increasing, significant gaps remain in preparedness, governance and the ability to maintain critical services when cyber incidents take place.

The accounting, auditing and consultancy firm's latest Global Digital Trust Insights Survey says this is particularly relevant to Jamaica as it advances efforts to strengthen its national cyber security framework.

The government recently announced that it would take a proposal to cabinet to establish a cybersecurity coordination assurance coordination council, in order to increase the level of coordination across the government, the private sector, regulators and other stakeholders.

The PwC survey, which captured the views of 3,934 businesses and technology experts across 71 countries and territories, found that 84 per cent of the security and finance leaders, who responded, expect cyber budgets to be increased, up from 78 per cent last year.

Fifty-eight per cent ranked artificial intelligence among their top budget  priorities  for the year, in a demonstration of the growing focus on securing AI systems while responding to threats by the technology.
