The Westmoreland police have arrested a man for impersonating a Jamaica Public Service company worker.
Reports are that the individual in question, who is neither a JPS worker nor contractor, was taken into custody for soliciting payment from residents and promising to have their electricity reconnected.
The light & power company has again issued a warning to the public against making payments to individuals or teams posing as JPS workers and offering to reconnect electricity for a fee.
The company first issued this warning two days after the passage of Hurricane Beryl, when reports of unscrupulous activities emerged, following the damage to the electrical infrastructure.
The JPS says every legitimate JPS worker will have his or her photo ID and that no JPS worker will be soliciting payment to have electricity reconnected.
The company says the act does not only put the lives of the culprits and the customers who are paying them in danger, but also JPS workers who are on the ground interfacing with the lines and electrical infrastructure.
JPS is also warning that engaging in the practice could significantly set back its restoration efforts.
It is encouraging its customers to report suspected cases of impersonation to its Customer Care Centre at 888-CALL-JPS that's 888-225-5577.
