Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St. Catherine North Division

The St. Catherine North Police on Tuesday captured a man suspected to be involved in praedial larceny.

Superintendent Hopton Nicholson, head of the St. Catherine North Division, says the suspect was taken into custody after the police intercepted a vehicle transporting stolen animals.

Reports are that on October 22, sometime after 5 p.m., the police signalled a motorist driving a Toyota Corolla Axio to stop in the vicinity of March Pen Road.

"Now this driver disobeyed the police instruction and the driver also tried to elude the police. The vehicle came to a halt along Barracks Road in Spanish Town where the driver ran from the vehicle and made his escape. The vehicle was subsequently searched and two goats were observed in the rear passenger seat of the motor car along with a male passenger," Superintendent Nicholson disclosed.

Other items such as kitchen knives, ski masks, cell phones, a pair of scissors and items of clothing were also found in the vehicle.

In light of this and other such incidents, the superintendent urged owners to ensure their animals have distinguishing marks which can help when the animals are to be recovered.
